Lesson Description:

STANDARD PIANO LESSONS

I recommend my standard piano lessons for anyone from pre-K to senior adult. In these lessons I teach piano performance, piano literature, piano technique, music history, music theory, ear training, and composition.

The 30 min. lessons are designed for beginning to intermediate students. On this level, I teach as much as I can in all the areas just described, but I focus on music theory, technique, and short pieces from method books.

The 45 min. lessons are designed for intermediate to advanced students. I teach as much as I can in all the areas described above, but I may do a combination of teaching from the method books as well as teaching from the standard classical literature.

The 60 min. lessons are designed for the advanced or otherwise ambitious student. I focus on the interpretation of classical repertoire for the advanced student. I teach technique, music history, music theory, composition, etc. all within the context of the piece at hand.

For the otherwise ambitious student, my method of teaching is similar to the Standard 30 min. piano lesson, but more in depth, and we generally move ahead more quickly.

MUSIC LESSONS FOR PRE-K AND KINDERGARTEN!

I am now offering group music lessons for kids kindergarten and pre-K. I feel like one is never too young to learn music, but at the same time, I feel like pre-K and kindergarteners are too young to sit through a 30 min. lesson and practice 30 min. a day. That is why I am now offering a different type of music education in my piano studio for kids in this age group. The lessons are shorter and the pieces we will learn are designed so that they spend only about 5-10 min. a day practicing. We will play simple pieces on the piano with with a CD accompaniment, sing, learn about different composers, learn the names of the keys, and more! You have the option of enrolling in one-on-one lessons or a group class of 2-4 kids.

Frequently Asked Quesions:

WHAT KIND OF INSTRUMENT DO I NEED?

In an ideal world, I would recommend a 9-foot Steinway piano for your child. But… unless if you have an extra $150,000 dollars lying around, that just in not practical. If you are one of those few who have that kind of money, go for it! For the rest of us, a good beginner upright piano will cost $600-$1200 used. A new upright piano will cost about $3000-$8000. If those prices are overwhelming, you can buy a cheap keyboard for about $100. I recommend this if you are just trying to get a feel as to whether or not your child will be serious enough for invest in an acoustic piano. A keyboard will last a student 6 months to a year. In the long run, however, I recommend even a cheap piano over even the most expensive keyboards. An acoustic piano is better for learning to color phrases and to change the tone of the piano the way we want. I am more than willing to help you find an instrument that best meets your needs :)
